Bendy handled osage

I had this splinter of a stave layin around so...
 There's nothing like a skinny little osage "D" bow, fast, and fun to shoot. This bow is 54" tip to tip, 1 1/8" wide to midlimb tapered to 1/4" tips. I'm still lookin for a better handle area if anyone has any ideas. I used a modified Ferret floppy rest, and stained the limbs with leather dye.

Looks great Dano!  Still amazes me how short you can get that osage, and still get a fairly long draw out of it.

Thanks guys, Coach, that is just stacked leather. I used contact cement for the layers, and wraped it with some textured leather I bought on ****.

Clint, you know it, I had thought about going shorter, but that would have been a waste of the rest of the stave.

looks like a sweet shooter, Oneday I'll try a Osage Stave. Hopefully it will look just as nice as Your's.

Thanks Bill, yep I usually drill a hole in the upper tip to hang the bow for finish, so it made use of the hole.

Those "Automatic" string keepers of Dano's work real neat - I can vouch for that I got a couple of them in use - LOL (Oooops, I guess I can forget this one too, Pat.     )

I just won a bendy handle Osage in a draw and I need to build up the belly side of the handle for my palm also. I was thinking of some kind of real closed-cell foam (dense) so it could still bend (like some tool handles) - but don't know where/how to find any. I guess the leather and contact cement build-up would work, now that you mention it. Mine is a Flatbow and the handle is just a Tad wide to be comfortable.(I don't know much about Bend through the Handle bows - yet) Will it change anything if I shave/sand a little off each side (edge) of the handle?

Bernie, If its a true bend through the handle the tiller will change if you shave the sides. You might look at it on your tiller tree and see if it can stand to bend more in that area.

I was afraid of that. I will do that, Dano. I need to look at it again anyway, as they had the draw weight labled wrong on it (fresh writing), with the brace height way high, and too short a string to even get a lower brace height. I made a little longer string (and have exercised it some) so need to check it out now, and will pay attention to that area as well. One previous owner had put a beaver tail wrap on the handle (which I like) but perhaps when I take that off, I'll leave it off, and it will narrow the width just enough, especially with the belly side of the handle built out into my palm a little with the leather strips and contact cement (just one thin strip there now). Dano, in regards to the handlematerial. Today in a second hand store i found a pair of (toy) shoulder pads, that only the shoulders were plastic on and the rest of the coverings were closed-cell foam like I spoke of. I had thought about safety gear for skateboarders, etc. and that's what i was checking for. It looks like I should be able to cut progressivly smaller ovals of the aprox. 1/8" foam and put them together with contact cement or Barge Glue, if it doesn't eat the foam up - LOL. You might want to think about looking for something like that. I'll let you know how mine comes out.

Thanks Bernie, I'll look for some, I used to see that stuff all the time at work (packing material), we'd just throw it out, I may have to start dumster divin.    Never too late huh?
