After all these years, I finally get to post some pics on this thread!!!! Due to elbow tendinitis, this is the first time I have ever hunted with a bow under 45#. Since deer season opened, I got these 3 critters, all with a Sarrels Blueridge longbow that is 44@29.

It's quite fascinating to realise that a modern bow of 40lb is just as fast as a 50 pounder that was made in the 70/80s.
My fist bow was a Slazenger flat bow about 30lb when I was 13 or so, kept the larder full of Rabbits and the odd Pheasant.
This was all back in the 60s when I didn't know better as your not supposed to hunt with a bow over here.
I progressed to 40/45 and then to 50/55 lb bows and finally a 61 lb H&H big five, and now at 71 going back to 40/45s
And I must say I like them best.
This as been a wonderful thread and all credit to those who have contributed well done, I have learned a great deal from you gent's.

WOW!!! This thread has been around a while..... Almost 10 years, and 32 pages.

We've lost a bunch of pictures over the years. But, last night just for giggles, I took a count.....
10 Bears, 3 Elk, 2 Caribou, and 2 Moose, including a Pope & Young Bull taken with a 41# recurve!!!  :readit:
Check out page 6!!!

[attachment=1,msg2979794]Have set up light poundage bows and built arrows for three hunters the past few years. All have been resoundingly successful.

My buddy harvested four deer last year with a 37# bow at his draw length. All pass thru's and short recoveries.  Set up this 1965 Bear Kodiak Magnum and built the arrow just prior to season.......34#s at my buddy's actual draw . He harvested this deer yesterday....17 yard shot...complete pass thru and 30 yard recovery....He is 5 for 5...

I took this doe last evening.  As the arrow shows, she was hard quartering away when I shot her at a distance of around 20 yards.  The bow is 43 lbs@28 and I have a draw length just a little over 27 inches.  The arrow is a 5mm FMJ with a 150 grain Silver Flame and the whole arrow weighs in at 526 grains.  I am quite pleased at the total performance.
