QUOTE: MikeO "With the amount of beautiful well made take-down recurves on the market what makes this bow worth the money? The Bear name?"

It's a Fred Bear thing you wouldn't understand...LOL

I don't think there is a Bear bow in any catalog worth the amount of money that is being asked for them now. That being said I own 5 Fred Bear bows. They are consistantly good shooters, they hold their value well, if you break one just send it back to Bear Archery and they'll send you a new one (been there, done that) and they are a part of modern bowhunting history.

I agree, it's a Bear thing.  I own a Bear T.D. 80's vintage and wouldn't trade it for the top custom bow out there.  I , at the same time, wouldn't dream of paying the money they ask for a new one.  I've been doing this bow thing since the mid 60's and I own my own business and I can't see where there's a bow in the world worth more than $400.00 tops but call me old fashioned I guess!

jeff w

I like it.  As far as bows being worth what the asking price is, how about Adock, Black Widow or Morrison.   Guess it's all the the eye of the beholder.

longbowman

Before I get banished to the black lagoon let me be sure I phrase my comment correctly about the worth of bows.  "TO ME THER"S NO BOW WORTH MORE THAN $400.00 TOPS".  I think the Chek-Mate bows are as good as anything that ever came out of Black Widow and look at their prices.

Ray Hammond

And that's why Chekmate exists....if everyone wanted a Black Widow it would be a dull world for sure.

I've paid big money for some bows- I own a Jerry Pierce Choctaw that I can truly say is the sweetest shooting most beautiful thing I've ever owned, and it would cost a lot more than 1200 bucks to pry it from my fingers!

But nowadays, I'm buying used bows. If they have been cared for and not abused, I like the idea of letting someone else take the "hit" -driving them out of the showroom...and when they get disenchanted with it you can snap it up for what you are willing to pay for it.

Bows, like cars, are worth whatever people are willing to pay for them. A Nissan Sentra and an Aston Martin sports car will both take you from point A to point B - enough folks are spending 200K for cars to keep the Aston Martin's in showrooms, but NOT me.

Whatever floats your boat!!!!

Where did you find the info on this bow? I didn't see it on the Bear site.

I have collected hundreds of bear bows over the last 30 years. But for $1200?..my money goes to Bob Morrison. Bear Archery needs a dose of reality vs. the competition. The Bear name means squat today with Fred and the others in the happy hunting grounds.

John Dill

Yeah.....thats the same thing folks said during the 1960s and 70s...they just couldnt see payin that much for a Bear bow. Well guess what they are still in business and are still selling bows and somebodys buyin them. If you look at the price increases over the years from the 1970s to present, Bear bows have roughly increased 20 dollars a year since the Bear takedown was first introduced. I have several Bear Takedowns and several Kodiaks and the new takedowns are as good if not better shooters than my old ones. If you want one dont be afraid to get one!

Buy it if you like it.  Despite the countless custom bows I've bought, I still shoot the Super K.  I want the swanky one, too.   But, if you find a bow that you like, does it matter...  I've seen guys with high $$$ bows shoot great, and some that couldn't.  I've seen garage sale bow guys hit gophers at 30 yds.  If you aren't shooting what you like, find something you do.    Price is only part of the equation.  Bear bows are my cup of joe...

Cutty47

I'll save my $1,300 an ebay Adcock...lol...

To bad it's not offered with an "A" handle with #3 limbs.
