Today is the first anniversary of G. Fred Asbell's passing.  Great man gone to the great beyond.  We have lost several great men/woman in January.

I never met  G Fred in person, I only know him through his books and articles. But I do know that bow hunting lost one of its greats a year ago today.

Met him at PBS San Antonio.  Wore one of his vests to Mass tonight.

Not too long after Fred died, my beloved dog died.  The night after my dog died, I had a very vivid dream where Fred was playing with my dog in heaven.  I only met Fred one time, at an instinctive shooting seminar he was putting on at Black Widow many years ago, so it was quite a surprise when he turned up in my dream.  But your post brought back a memory of that dream, and made me realize that the first anniversary of my dog's death will be coming up pretty soon too.

Fred used to belong to a traditional bowhunting camp down at a hunting property in south Georgia affectionately known as Paradise.  Several guys here on Tradgang used to either belong to that lease or had the pleasure of hunting that lease.  Fred usually had a hudson bay long coat on and was a mountain of a man to me and he looked like what i imagined a mountain man would look like.   He was just one of the guys to us and is greatly missed.
