Started developing a kid bow about two years back , several forms later I think I have it .

Meanwhile I had some that look like a coat hanger without the hanging hook . Hated the looks of them, but with different taper rates and changes, I had to build another form yet.

Bro came over one day and was looking at them , wanted to shoot one, and loved it . 54" black glass with black locust lams and a walnut riser.42@28"

Said he was gonna hunt with it, and he did!

This buck , he watched bed and stalked him and threw hedge apples til he got up. Made the mistake of walking by at 8 yards...

The arrow fell out first jump, he called me, and I went to help him track after a few. He's pretty good at knowing where the hit was, so we went on the track, decent blood for 20 yards, but when the deer started downhill in the draw, the trail was tremendous.

About 80 yards total, and done...

Fast forward to the week before gun season if I recall, I'd seen a buck with a missing point a couple times, John was in a stand we call the gate stand, between two fields. This buck came up and right perfectly thru the gate at 12 yards. Arrow gone and stuck in the dirt!!

Number two for the kid bow!!

42# is not a kid bow.
Good job.

It came in pretty heavy , not sure if it was the black locust or my math.  It was supposed to be a kid bow...

After a couple more tries with various stacks and tapers, I am close.

Those came out pretty sporty looking!

I did some little kids recurve bows a few years ago that were pretty good shooters. I built these two for a buddy in Texas for his kids that were about 6-7 years old. Fun project, still have the form.

Kirk, that looks a lot like a Bear Grizzly. Should be a good shooter if it's anything close to it!

Yup.... That's what I had in mind when I designed it to be an old 60's Bear looking thing... but this one has a bit more aggressive hooks on it than the old Bears did, and they spit those little kids aluminum arrows with nibs points pretty darn quick...

The thing is... with ultra light kids bows,a lot of them don't have the power to make the arrows stick in a standard 3D target. I wanted something that had some zip to it at real light poundage so the arrows would stick in the targets better.

But.... You have as much time and almost as much materials as building a full sized bow with these little recurves. So I decided not to sell them... these are a labor of love bow that are only done on special occasion for friends and family.

Cute little buggers aren't they?  :biglaugh:
