I've had quite a few folks asking about ASL or Hill style bows so I thought I'd throw one together cheap to see ...

A 2x4 cut to 72" , straightest one I had out back ...

I ripped a little off one edge for a square corner on it.

Oh I started this operation three weeks ago just before the tornado . Been so busy helping neighbors that I just got back to it ...

Here's a new trick for me, mule tape on air hose...

I cut notches in the bottom of form board with a router to keep mule tape from slipping . I will say it was a pain in the arse to wrap the tape around the entire form , if I do another I will use a 2x6 and put the pegs in it to wrap tape on...

I'm not that interested in the bow itself, but I am watching the mule tape/air hose thing for tips and ideas. This seems like a great kit idea to sell for beginners who want a fast, pretty easy build to get started.

This is going to be fun to watch .

I use paracord on mine.  About $3.00 worth.

Here I put a scrap reverse (.002) taper on form with just a dot of CA on each end and clamped to keep flat on form.

The riser is straight on back and there is taper (.002) lams under riser on form.

This makes better glue lines because the riser doesn't rock on the tapers under it . It does build in 1/16 ish string follow I found.

About ready, put side washers on and drilled where middle of ramps will be about an inch down on form for ziptys.  Once you get glue on all lams and glass and belly lams and glass laid on riser you can zipty the belly lams down in middle of ramps and alternate tightening to ease the riser to center of form if it's moved a little.

About ready to go...

Guess I put washers on after this pic  :biglaugh:

As you can see, that 2x4 isn't anything special except straight both ways.

This is a little stop about 3/4" wide I put on riser with a dot of CA on each end for the belly lams and glass to butt up to, it will grind off when you shape the riser.

If the lams and glass slide up the belly ramp and past the corner at top of ramp , it will leverage the lams up in middle of belly ramp and leave a hideous glue joint . Don't even ask how I know this.

The black tape holds the metal pressure strip down at washers so it doesn't get on top of a washer and not press there.

I put a washer about 3" back from end of riser and one at mid limb on both sides of form . I drill them off center so the swing up to desired height . Be sure to check that aren't too high , you want em just above stack of lams .

Went well even tho I wondered if the mule tape was close enough on the hose. Used 60 psi in hose . Glue lines are great .

Cleaned glue boogers off one side and ran her thru thickness sander down to 1 3/8" wide at fades then checked tip and riser alignment. It was off 1/16" so moved the tips a little to correct. Need to check the board to see if it warped in heat box ...

What stack and taper did you use ???

kennym

.050 Green glass, 4 bamboo lams with .001 taper from an order that wasn't taken by customer, and total stack .400 with 18" riser.

Prob not an accurate depiction of a Hill stye , but this was just a test.  Now returning to the regularly scheduled program...   :biglaugh:

Still shaping on the handle, but will get some pix when done...
