Is anything similar being made as the torges bowyers edge tool? If so can you provide a photo or link. Thanks

Bowjunkie

As far as I know The Bowyers Edge is still being made and sold on Dean's site. I bought one a couple of years ago.

A good cabinet scraper is what I use.

Is that a good brand and where to purchase?

I use a cabinet scraper also and I always round off the sharp corners with different size radius. One slip and you have a nasty scratch slanted across a bow back, with sharp corners.

Mike any "quality" cabinet scraper will work.

There are places that also sell garbage scrapers.

Good idea there Bue..

Veritas makes a Chair Devil.  This is what the bowyers edge actually is and is used in furniture making.  Dean was a custom furniture builder.

Almost. Actually its a scraper-shave. Its a cross between a cabinet scraper plane and a spoke shave.

I checked out Veritas site and they have a scraper shave that is very similar to the Edge. The Chair Devil is for  spindles and has a rounded face and blade.

You are correct Buggs, got them mixed up.  Lee valley has the veritas scraper shave for $82.  A much better made tool for less than $20 more.

I bought a Crucible card scraper, it is the best scraper that I have ever used.
Took me two years to decide to buy a $21.00 tool, should not have waited so long.

Bucknut and Rainman, thanks for the heads-up on the Veritas scraper shave. They were out of stock but I kept tabs on them and got one when it became available. It arrived yesterday. This thing is heavy and feels and looks like a fine quality tool. I'm anxious to sharpen it and get to know it a little better.

That is a great looking tool, dammit there goes more money out of my pocket:)

You can sharpen like a chisel blade and put a hook on it or you  can choose not to put a hook on.  It will work either way.  May take some time to get used to working it.

Lee Valley (Veritas) makes excellent tools. I have quite a few of their planes, shaves, measuring tools and a dowel maker. All go too tools.

Gonna hone and burnish the bevel and the flat back, then roll a burr on it.

bucknut

I do the same by burnishing to roll the edge.  It is the perfect in between tool when you don't quite need a draw knife but a bit too much for a cabinet scraper.  I really like it for working on the belly when you are getting close to tiller.
