Woo Hoo!!! I'll make it a takedown. I'm sure I have an old door hinge lying around. 😁

Cool the ole guy in Linneus Mo. could use another hinge:)

Just for clarity, that wood is just a small sample of the quality lumber they supply us with at work to build skids and crates for the valves we build. 😕

Looks like this should have some nice straight grain for one of those fancy wood bows. I only make those ugly glass bows so I'll have to chop it up, maybe use it in my victims bow!

I'd love to see the inside of that bit of wood!

Am I the only one that wouldn't mind seeing that wormy spruce stabilized?  Would make a pretty awesome riser.

Mad Max

should have some awesome veneers in there

Travis LOL.

That's some pretty wood inside.

wood carver 2

That would look amazing in a riser. What wood is it?

I cut a small burl off it last night and i don't think it's dry enough. I thought it was dead when I cut it a year ago but I was wrong. I'm worried about it checking bad.

I just read a post somewhere by Big Jim where I think he said he boils it to dry it . I'm sure it needs to be cut into boards first .
Stay sharp, Kenny.

You are not alone, I love the look of worm wood.

I made some knife scales from wormy Locust, it's gorgeous.
Skeater who?

That wormy spruce really is just junk. The holes are almost big enough for me to put my little finger in and the wood is too soft to be any good. Most of that ends up in the firewood pile. When I come across pieces like that I can only use them in non load bearing areas or just toss them if they're bad enough.
If it was hardwood, I would fill the holes with colored epoxy. That would be something.

I just searched boiling wood and it sounds like a lot of turners use that method. Might try it with a block of it. Just need to get down to use my buddy's saw mill.
