Feather Rests

What is it Wade says? Collectors are all crazy.

Who has vintage feather rests? Would love to see what's out there.

Vintage Jack Howard Rests, Ben Pearson rests. Let's see them

Trap,
I only have one original on a 59 Bear Kodiak Special but couldn't find pictures on my PC with it but here's my Stable of Howatts that I have purchased through 3 Rivers,Big Jims and not sure where else I got them but I thought these were made by you cause they have that slight tilt towards the shelf plate to help keep arrow on?
Not sure who else makes them but a fella named Jerry D. in Md. told me a fella that go's by the name Brandon?
I think that was the name he gave me but anyway whoever makes them does a "AWESOME" job and I have many bows with them.
Another thing I would like to see come back is that leather Bear brush rest/side plate that sticks on.
Wing used to have one to as I'm sure you know all about!
Not too crazy with the pararest with the plastic plate but recently I thought a leather one came out?
Anyway thanks for showing your collection and I love seeing the ones with color like yellow and green.

I made all of your feather rests if you bought them at Bear Archery, 3 Rivers, Big Jim's, Stickbow Supplies (Jerry Dewese), the Nocking Point or The Footed Shaft since I supply all those businesses I don't know of anyone else making them with a slanted upper surface.

Anyone with a 59 Repro has one of them also.

It's funny that Jerry didn't remember my name. There's likely a reason for that.

It's good to see you are enjoying them and thanks for sharing a pic.

Trap thank you for clearing that up and yes that is the Jerry I was referring to lol.
I bought one from him last year and from all the company's you mentioned .
I held one up against my 59 Kodiak Special which still has the original and you have made it spot on if you ask me.
I have made a few myself but nothing as good as yours.
You do a "FABULOUS " job on those and do you also do the strike plates as well?
I know it isn't something you see on a Howatt but I like them on mine as you can see.

Thank You Keith, I appreciate the kind words. I was fortunate in the beginning to listen to a few folks like Don Ward, Bjorn and Al Harford and take their advice about suggested improvements to the rests I was making. I've made a bunch since then.

While I've made replacement strike plates for my own bows and for a few friends I've never sold any to suppliers.

Questions to all experts on feather rests. How should I orientate my nocks when using the feather rest with 3 fletch. Should my fletching be at as 12, four and 8 for maximum clearence? Thank You

Steve, My fletching is at 1,5 and 9. Feather rests are pretty forgiving. Orient them whatever way they fly best for you.

Trap this question is for you ...I have a lot of your rests and all are the original but wondering if I could do the "Kool Aid" dye on them or does that have to be done before they are made into a rest?
Thinking something along the lines like a yellow or green where I would just let the feathers soak without the quills hitting the liquid?
Then let air dry or is that better done before making the rest?

I was given a box of feathers rests (12) in a trade. They look like old school feather rests and the feathers are red. I have been using them on a few of my bows. Trap if you want one for your collection you are welcome to it.

Keefer, I think you could soak the feather portion without any trouble. A yellow sharpie marker might be faster. Try one and if it falls apart I will send you another.

Jon, Thanks the feather rest arrived safely and I don't have one like it in my small collection. I'm pretty sure it's a Bear feather rest from the mid 60s.

Glad it fit in your collection. I have about 6 more but I am not a collector so I will use them. Had one on my Kodiak Hunter last fall when I shot a bear.

My acquisitions always seem to have rests that have seen their last arrows. I promised Trap I would post a pic of this one of his rests, riding just above the waist of Holly Golightly, a perfectly elegant heartbreaker.
