Well last weekend was our annual Cool Springs Gang Fall hunt.  We are fortunate to hunt on private land in foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.  Here's the view from our camp:

Here's a camp picture of Travis (Bear Paw) discribing quantum physics.  Bill (Cool Springer) is not amused.

I caught Danny Two Hats Practicing these principles.

Well On with my story:  Friday morning 10-19-12 found me in a new location only 80 yards from our camping location.  We have seen deer in a field obove us for years.  I decided to give it a try.  At first light several deer came feeding by.  This one presented a shot at 14 yards.  My Blacktail Elite fired off a Heritage 250 tipped with a Grizzly single bevel.  Whapppp..  Right through the shoulder blade as advertised.  He ran ~70 yards and crashed in a cow pasture.

About 30 minutes later a nice doe stepped into the same area.  I put a Big Ol' Snuffer through her boiler room.  She made it over 150 yards and fell into this creek:

Two Deer per day in Virginia.  My deer hunting was over til Sat.

Dan helped me tremendously with the tracking, dragging and hero pics.  Thanks again Bro.  We've been doing this over 16 years.  Here's our combined hero pics:

Beautiful area. Congrats on the doe.

Cool Springer

Allen, I'm amused when you MISS!

OK, since you rarely ever miss, I guess I'm rarely amused   ;)

I'm finally chiming in after 3 days of catching up at my "real" job, and one late night controlling crazy Springsteen fans at my "other" job last night.

What a great 3 days and 4 nights in the hills of Madison County VA!  I didn't take a shot, but I hunted hard, relaxed hard, and came back rejuvenated.

Congrats to Jeff and Danny.  They both always find a way to put game on the ground on this annual hunt.  I'm envious.

Thanks to Travis for providing an awesome place to camp and hunt.  As you can see from the first photo, the surroundings are absolutely gorgeous this time of year, and the hunting is always great.  I think someone always sees at least one bear, and encounters with deer and turkey are guaranteed!!

I'll be hunting tomorrow morning, so hopefully I'll be able to share a success photo sometime soon.

Congrats to Nook and Danny from the other side of the hill, still waiting for a shot at something other than a dink but even that may have to change. Good going guys.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

You VA boys know how to get it done!
