Last hunt of the season

Last week just 3 days before the end of the hunting time i decide to go in the wood with the brand new quiver i recieved from my family for christmas. it's a great present, so far i used only a side mount bow quiver and i was dreaming about a nice back quiver ... beautiful piece but you have to learn again how to move in the wood with !

 


After some times walking in the wood i decide to go tree stand for the afternoon, in this first day of january it's very very cold but with all the clothes i can find on me i will probably survive ...

Since some years we have in those mountains a Wolf and snow "situation" and let's said that for the roe deer, when you are lucky enough to get tags (we are 10 hunters and we have for all of us tree roe deer tags on this territory) the best thing you can do now is to shoot only young one during the winter if you want to preserve the "roe deer population bank account".

I had already several shooting oportunity on adult roe deer this year or on very young and small one but never release an arrow yet exept on a young doe from last spring just before christmas.

A this time of the year, the young get 8 months and are big enough to put a good amount a very nice eatin in the fridge !

i was lucky on this afternoon, a doe with two young decide to come close by my tree in the middle of the afternoon just before for me to be completely frosen !!!

i release "almost" full draw like usual an heavy arrow on the little guy of the group ...

he drop down trying to escape the arrow but y saw him runnig with the big "el grande" outside between his front legs ...

voila, time to think about something else hunting now , i was very fortunate to shoot something on this last hunting day for the season in these south part of alps

congratualtions!  i like your set-up.  nice arrow weight.  i'm surprized you didn't get a complete pass-thru.  how far was the shot?

no worry Dustybaer,  i shot this nice little fellow perhaps 7 yards but really below the TS on the trail , my TS is looking at the slope of the moutain, so when i'm shooting from this TS i  almost never get complet pass thru because my arrow always stop in the ground with the angle

An adult roe deer in our dry mediteranean alps are close to 55 pounds for the bigger one, this one is perfectly repersentative of a young one from last spring.

With this setting of bow & arrow you can go for much bigger animal without a doubt about penetration   :cool:

Thank you Rick, unfortunatly bowhunting is still not possible by law in most of the european country, in those country where bowhunting is not legal the pressure of the 'wheel-lobby" is very strong ...

Real nice.I like those little deer.I dont think they have ever been introduced into the US or Id give em a go.

Wow!
Awesome, i really like seeing roe deer bow hunted.
and that last pic is great!
And sometimes our dreams they float like anchors in hopeless waters oh way down here
