..Just got back from our annual Cool Springs Hunt Trip in the foothills of Madison Co. VA. and this is what I got to bring home.
Just a short story of the afternoon...me and Barepaw decided to hunt these two oak ridges on a windy afternoon.I had been settled in for a few hours overlooking a scrape made earlier in the day. Then around 5:oo this 4 pt decided to wander on down the logging road right to me.I settled in for a shot and took what appeared to be a broadside shot and planted a Snuffer 125 in the middle of the bucks body.I watched him dissaper out of site in to an old cutover.
I waited for dark as two fawns wandered around the base of my tree. Finally I could get down and check for blood.I was dissappointed only to find very little blood.I figured I would go back to camp and wait a spell and come back with some help.Coolspringer and myself looked for blood and finally found some smear marks about 60 yds away on some saplings heading towards the old grown up creek bed.We looked and never found anymore blood, except for pieces of my arrow.
I came away from that thicket exhausted and dissappointed.I made my mind up to come back in the morning to give it another try.I knew that hAD TO BE A DEAD DEER!After a morning hunt with Jimmy Meadows and Nook,we decided to follow that creek bed and fern hollow in the the daylight.Since the night before was a cold one,we figured the deer would be good if found. Thanks to ole Nook he wandered upon the 4 pt and the rest is history. The foxes had got to one of the hams and 3/4's of that one was still good.Thats my story.....Nook should be sharing his soon.....Memories we made those few days will always be etched in my mind like all hunts are with great friends....Sorry folks I can't make these hunt stories short....

Laying in the freezer meat aren't you Danny. Way to go, I've stalled at one but with the cool coming maybe something good will happen again. Best to all the CSG.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Sky Hawk

Highly doubt it was foxes.  Likely coyotes, but throw that ham out.

Congratulations.
