I have some experience with glass bows but none with all wood bows .  I bought this bow and on my first shot I heard a faint tick.      Again a tick on the second shot. On the third shot there was a crack. There was no fourth shot .
Can anyone tell me why the bamboo backing would split ? Is the bow fixable or just a wall hanger?

Bill

NO matter where you go there you  are !

You can fix it.

Google Dean Torges,  His website has good directions.

Its hard to say why. Could have been a nick in the boo. When scraping the rind off of a boo backing strip the scraper can make small nicks that aren't very noticeable.
Super glue and a wrap or 2 should fix it.    Pat

It looks to me like someone sanded the surface of the boo and smoothed down the nodes. This weakens the bamboo a lot. Best to only remove the waxy outer layer of bamboo if anything. Leave the nodes standing.

Superglue under the lifted bamboo and over-wrap the splintered area with silk, then superglue the silk wrapping. You can make the wrapping neat and it will look OK. At any rate it should work fine. As Shaun said keep the nodes proud to be on the safe side with BB bows.

I got a bad lot of bamboo and the above happened on every bow I made from it. I replaced the bamboo on the bows that failed.
