Pine Flatbow

HI guys!!
Just thought I'd let you all know, that my second effort was successful HORAAAAYYY.
After much sweating and swearing, I finished up with a bow 66" ntn and 52lbs@28" !! it shows no sign of chrysals, splitting , lifting wood fibres or anything!! Whether this will be the case after shooting in remains to be seen. Waste of time I was told, only good for firewood Iwas told!!!! I would put up some pics. but I dont know how to!!!! I seriously think it needs to be backed, but it has very little hand shock is quite fast and a joy to shoot!! I used Johns gadget to see what wood to remove and it works a treat (when you get the pencil in the right place. I feel almost triumphant in my success, but I'm not stupid, and if it does explode on me I'll let you all have a laugh at me and say "I told you so" !!!!!!!!

good for you. i similarly worked on a couple poplar staves, for the pure sake of tillering practice and the masochistic fun of it. i got a much less impressive 25-30lb draw range.

there's nothing wrong with experimentation, especially if you have fun at it.

You are never stupid experimenting and proving folks wrong. We have learned more about wood bows in the last 15 years than were learned in the 10,000 before, because folks experimented with stuff others said wouldn't work. Consider yourself a pioneer of wood bow archery.     Pat
