Gene McGlashen of Stillwater archery was at the GLLI this year with a booth full of bows. I hadn't seen Gene in a few years and was glad to see he was still at it making his beautiful osage bows. He had some English bows and also a few gorgeous Grumley Replicas. I spotted a beautiful slim little osage bow backed with osage that was just about the weight I like. It reminded me of a bow I had as a youth and It called to me to take it home. Gene had a small shelf and arrow plate on it for right hand but he said he could also put on on the other side and make it a double shelf bow.

The bow came in the mail today and after shooting a few dozen arrows through it, I think I'm in love again. The work Gene does on the tips is especially nice.

Years ago I got a tape on making bows and a stave from Stillwater it really help me with my early bow making. Love those tips.

I wish I had taken pictures of the other bows that Gene had at the GLLI. His Grumley replicas were a work of art. They would make Old Nels green with envy...

I was glad to find out eailer this year that Gene was still making bows as well. Great looking bow there Ron!! Someday I might be fourtunate enough to own one.

I didn't know he was still in business either. I bought my 1st staves from him back in the late 80's or so.The hickory I broke but the osage still shoots - many shots later.

Very nice Ron. There is something about a fine osage selfbow that gets in your blood. Nothing like it.

I shot one of Gene's English bows at the GLLI and thought it was one of the smoothest bows I had ever shot. Gene was great to talk with.

He has passed recently. I picked up two of his creations this year, very nice craftsmanship. A longbow he made is listed in the classifieds, looks really nice.
