New Grind (for me)

Very good client from my last Montana Knife Show asked me to make him a 4" Integral Hunter with a "Sabre Grind". I had no idea of what he meant by that, so I did the sensible thing and asked him for more detail. He said he would send me either photo or sketch of what he had in mind, but they never came after three weeks of waiting, so I sent him a sketch of what I thought a 4" sabre grind might look like.

He wrote back saying the sketch I sent was not exactly what he was thinking about, but he really like the idea, and asked me to incorporate the grind into the Integral Hilt Hunter. At this point I had no idea as to how to get the grind done, but I learned from my business class in college that a "happy customer" will be a "repeat customer", so I agreed to try it.
Applying a new grinding technique to an integral(for me at least) was a huge deal because of all the material that has to be removed from a 5/8" thick bar of D2 steel before I applied the grind - if I mess up the grind, all my steel removing effort will be wasted, so I decided to do a test knife to find out if I could even get the desired grind depicted in my original sketch.


After I figured how to do the grind, then it was applied to the Integral (in progress)

.......and to this day I still have no idea of my client's version of the "Sabre Grind" looked like.

Handle is a very nice piece of polished stabilized quilted Hawaiian koa.
