Here is my first deer harvested with traditional equipment. The bow was a 60" 62#@28 Morrison classic longbow made of Osage. I refinished the bow over the winter and added rattlesnake skins and a weathered leathered grip.

The buck was at 15 yards quartering away slightly. I hit him left lung, clipped his right lung and through the heart. I had a pass through but my arrow did not leave the deer. He ran about 20 yards and I watched him drop. I love that because  I am a bit color blind and really have to blood trail slow. When I field dressed him, his heart was decimated. Wensel Woodsman.

I've missed a few deer each year for the last four years with a longbow or a recurve. I usually switch to traditional from the compound after I harvest a few deer with the compound. This year I decided I was only hunting longbow.

The deer is a 6 point – 4 x 2. He's not a monster, but finally taking a deer traditionally makes him a "trophy" in my eyes. I actually focused on a tuff of hair and it just happened.

Awesome.

Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you
miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where
you are going and why.
