Not much on long drawn out stories, was sitting 20 ft. up in a big poplar and at 8:40 a.m. started to stand up and stretch a little when I looked behind me to make sure nothing was sneaking in. Well here comes a little 6 pt. walking in from my right side at a fast walk, hunting on neighbors property and he has a 140 in. or bigger rule so I said heck, well then I see something out of the corner of my eye and here comes a huge bodied deer.
I reach over grab my bow and start to stand real slow while trying to watch both deer, the small one was already around in front of me and he seen me stand up and took off crashing through some saplings, the bigger deer ran about 10 yds and stopped with his shoulder and head behind a big poplar at 18 yds or so, I knew he was out to his ears or better and looked like he had good mass so it was either let him run off or take the shot, so I took it, double lunged him, he ran 15 yds. stood there for 10 secs. and started to wobble then took off and crashed into some trees and was dead in less the 30 seconds, total distance ran maybe 30 yds.
Will get some pics up later getting ready to go check him in, waitng on a friend to get here who killed one with his compound...
Forgot the bow combo. used was a Dan Howatt Super Diablo 47@28 w/2113`s and 125 gr. Magnus 4blade Stinger, arrow weight was 446 gr. complete pass througgh with arrow laying on the ground 4 yds. past deer. The bows tips have been redone to use FF and it shoots that arrow at about 194 fps. at my 29.5 in. draw, and is quiet as a church mouse. Added a pic that shows a side view.. You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Way to go Dean!!! Now hurry up with those pictures!!!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Apex Predator

Congrats!  Did he make the 140" minimum?
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

And no it didnt make the 140 in. minumum, but he said he didnt care as it was a mature buck and good for a recurve.

   Awesome story.  I am living vicariously thru all you.  I have missed the last 3 years of hunting due to surgeries.  Sucks to be me    :banghead:
A bad day of hunting is still far better than a good day at work.
