My fall has been a little slow this year with a new kiddo in our family.  I had a chance at a doe earlier this fall and missed badly so when this buck came by tonight I decided not to pass him up.  I actually had a thought rush through my mind about a post that Whip put on the board several weeks about about not trophy hunting or worrying about managing deer as much as just having fun.  Tonight was a great night to be out and I really enjoyed the sit. I daydreamed back to some of my previous hunts instead of constantly scanning the woods for a deer.  It was laid back and relaxed.  I took Whip's advice.
Low and behold I looked up after daydreaming and saw this buck.  He messed around in the overgrown summer wheat field and then headed for the small food plot that I had raked into the ground earlier this fall.  I took him while he was still walking and he barely flinched as he ran underneath my stand and then stopped on the other side as if to figure out what had happened.  I snapped these pictures as he was starting to wobble.  If you look close you can see the entry wound behind the shoulder blade.

Dead on his feet as it only took about 30 seconds for him to fall.

This knife was given to me by my brother for my birthday from Doug Campbell.  The knife is made of osage and cherry from our parents farm.  Doug made Andrew a mirror image knife from the same pieces of wood.  Pretty darn cool and it worked great skinning out this buck.

As hard as traditional bow hunting can be, it is also so satisfying.  Especially when you get to take the gifts given and put them to good use.  Thanks again bro.

Congrats. That's some great pics. Pretty dang fast of you to think about snapping a shot of the deer before he fell.

Congrats! Great buck and story. You had to be quick on the draw to get those pics.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.
