Oh what a morning.....

I had the hunt of my life this morning.(From the ground.) Let just say a had a CLOSE encounter with a good buck... I'm at work now, as soon as the wife emails the pictures I will post them and the story. I am still shaking after three hours.......

I almost didnt get up this morning.. The alarm went off at 4:45 and it was tuff to get out of my warm bed. The time change has pretty much screwed up my evening hunting.I cant get off early enough to get to my hunting spots before it gets dark. So this week I decided I would try hunting some mornings, and boy did it pay off.

I got to my ground blind about 5:30. I had about 30 mins before it would be light enough to shoot....I got my gear situated and nocked an arrow and settled in. I couldnt enjoy the stars since I was inside my blind, so I sat there thinking about all the stuff I needed to do today at work.....

About 5:45 I hear this noise out in the darkness. It kind of sounded like a raccoon or some other animal so I didn't pay that much attention to it. A few minutes later I hear grunt. Then another and another and they sounded like they were getting closer and closer. I was thinking the whole time "please hurry up and get light" "This deer is going to be gone before I get a chance to see him"... About the time he gets right on top of me all I hear is silence..

The deer stood there long enough for me to make out his silhouette, and I thought I glimpsed horn.. As the deer started to walk away, I scrambled for my grunt tube. I figured i had nothing to loose and that maybe I could keep him around long enough for it to get light so I could shoot... I got way more than I bargained for...

I grunted a few times and expected to hear him blow out and run off, but he didn't. He came right back to where I originally saw him. By now it was light enough that I could shoot and I could make out his slender body and see that he was big enough to shoot. Only problem was, I still had my grunt tube in my mouth and my bow on my lap. The deer walked out of my sight window and disappeared. I could hear him walking around the back side of my blind, he was so close I could hear him breathing...This was a real intense moment, I could feel my heart about to beat out of my chest. Then more science.......
