Wow!  After the debacle last season, luck was on my side Tuesday morning.  For those of you that may not know, I missed (non fatal hit) a nice gobbler last year at, oh, let's say about 5yds!  My good friend Brek, who is a turkey caller especial, called that bird in nice and close last season and this morning started out much the same but the ending was very different.

Brek and I barely setup the Double Bull Blind and begin calling on that cool, crisp clear, and calm spring morning as Brek hit his slate call we were immediately rewarded with a quick response from some gobblers about 200yds away.   Well, it didn't take long and this guy was on top of us.  Brek's eyes lit up as he turned and whispered, "He's right behind us in full strut, about 10yds".  As I readied my new Kempf Kwyk Styk Recurve, loaded with a cedar arrowed tipped with a Wensel Woodsman Broadhead, I heard the gobbler cross the fence but he was still out of my sight.  Then suddenly, there he was, full strut, and looking to whoop the jake decoy we had setup.  This gobbler looked like he had been in a back ally brawl with some super bad toms but held his own I suppose because he was looking for some more action.  The world seemed to stop as I zeroed in on this guy and let the arrow fly.  The arrow slammed into the right wind butt and the force of the 585g arrow knocked him to the ground......momentarily.  Then all of a sudden he was up and running with the arrow hanging out.  I began to sweat thinking of last year and possibly losing this bird.  Brek and I decided to let him go and we would search for him after a short wait.  After a short search, Brek found him and the weight was lifted from my shoulders as we celebrated.

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

It doesn't matter how or what you shoot, as long as you hit your target.

Very nice indeed...I hope to do the same in a couple of weeks.  I have Michigan's late private ground hunt starts May 5th.

I'm really starting to zero my close shots in and the Double Bull will be cocked and locked that first morning.

Really looking forward to the hunt since my long time friend is hunting with a recurve this spring also.

Going to be a couple of Dark Archer wanabeeee's in that blind.

Congrats on a very nice bird.

You'll notice the "luckiest" elk hunters have worn out boots.
