An interestig tidbit if you plan to fly through the Netherlands with broadheads.

Before you know it, sharp, pointy sticks will be illegal...

One hunter lost $2500 worth of custom broadheads....!!!???  :scared:

They said they could have ceased my bow the one an only time I flew that route. I told them my CCL covered my bow an they let me go. Strange country, I could have had a hooker bring me bucket of dope, no problem but my recurve was ilegal

Thank God my family had the sense to move to the US from Europe

The quest to improve is so focused on a few design aspects & compensating for hunter ineptness as to actually have reduced a bow & arrow's effectiveness. Nothing better demonstrates this than mech. BHs & speed fixated designs

Remember that all Europe is not the same.  I live in the Czech Republic and buying knives and archery equipment is no problem at all.  Most people carry a pocket knife.  It is not difficult to obtain a gun license and buy guns.  As a foreigner I had no problem getting a license to carry concealed.  It is supposedly easy to import guns from the U.S.
Just like in the U.S. where some states have ridiculous and others don't, countries in Europe have different laws and culture when it comes to weapons and hunting.

We still can't bowhunt here though.

if you are in route and just on a layover, not coming through customs are you really entering the country?
thats gotta be one of the dumbest things i have ever heard.

@ BUFF (or anyone who knows). Bud, I am coming across to the USA via the Netherlands in June - and obviously bringing my bow and some arrows. Did you check your bow in as luggage, or hand-luggage? And did you stay over or just transition at the airport? Thanks.

BUFF

I was just changing planes there. They called me down to customs about my bow and wanted to see papers from my state showing I was allowed to own a weapon.

briandean

@BUFF Was that checked-in luggage or hand luggage? You've got me worried :-)

BUFF

It was checked luggage. If I had to go thru there again, I would pack my bow in a duffle. It was in a pelican case, I think they noticed it because it looks like a gun case

After reading the article in the original post, I would seriously look into flying a different route than through the netherlands.

That's why I have a 3 pieace pack the limbs and arrows in a pvc pipe and then in a regular pieace of luggage.

My rifles arrived late the first time I went through London but there were in regula gun cases, next time they went in one that looked like a golf case, no problem and sent them out on the belt lol

Two years ago, my group came within a gnat's eyelash of getting arrested for having broadheads in our luggage.  We were about to board the plane and were called back to the gate.  They had uniformed officers there along with an older gent in a suit.  I talked to the older gent at length and talked him out of putting us to jail.  Thankfully he was in charge and not the uniforms.
DO NOT GO THROUGH THAT CRAZY A## country.  Like Buff said, you can have a midget hooker deliver a bag of drugs to your hotel but don't have a broadhead in your checked luggage....amazing!!

Thank God my plane is going thru Dubai in May....  I haven't heard of any problems there. I'm flying Emirates out of Los Angeles thru Dubai to Tembo then to Richards Bay in the morning....  glad I don't have to mess with the Netherlands ...
