Found out the 2 bosses are in a power strugle and the one that's going bonkers had his girl friend leave him.

They say "Behind every successful man is a good woman" and perhaps the opposite is the same?

Hopefully someone who is close to the bonkers boss gets hold of him and straightens him out pronto!
