Who donated this bow I won

At a JLMBH a number of years ago I won this Bear Kodiak Special. 70" 46# @ 30".
Who donated it?

Yes I've never seen a 70", nor a 30" draw and yes in Excellent shape.

That bow is a Kodiak Special...although they do not have the same following by collectors as the Kodiaks they were Bear's top of the line bow when it came to price...a 63 inch Kodiak Special was a short one, 66 inch was most common and 69 and 70 inches were not unusual...any of those bows marked with a draw length other than 28 inches were a custom shop job

Pretty easy on the year actually...that would be a 1957 with that "tombstone" sight window and the 70 inch length

The bow is in really mint condition for being almost 60yrs. That's why I posted this on this board to find out from whom ever donated it to see if it was ever refinished (which I doubt it) or original (which I believe). And to find out who might have possibly owned it.

1957 or '58? I thought the '57 had gray glass with silk screens, which distinguished it from the '56 with stick-on decals, and the '58 was first year with caramel-colored  glass. But, since its a custom , one can never know unless you were the customer. I bet its a sweet shooter.

Someone had mentioned to me in past this was a '58 due to it's serial # but with left over riser materials form '57. He mentioned they would use up materials from the previous yr which didn't make sense to be. He actually called it a 1957.5 if there is such a thing

I believe both the 57 and 58 had tan glass belly and back but the 58 lost the tombstone shaped wood or stained wood in the sight window and had a longer light colored bar at the top of the sight window.  I call this bow a 57.

Unless the refinisher was very careful with the lettering I doubt very much that bow has been refinished...a custom Kodiak Special from that time would have been someone's pride and joy and treated with kid gloves

DDave and Brad are correct..its a 1957 or a custom made to look like a 57.
