One of the boys at work has a 64" Bear recurve 42# with a ser# Y36, brown glass, his grandpaw thinks he got in 1956 in Mich. Real good shape. Does that sound about right on the year?

Horney Toad

I don't think that is enough info for the exact year. Is it a Polar? Kodiak Special?

TonyW

Kodiak Specials in 1956 had gray glass backs and brown glass bellies.

Kodiaks in 1956 had brown/brown glass and double shelves.

Grizzlies in 1956 had black glass, double shelves, and only 62".

Polars in 1956 had red/red glass and double shelves.

Still don't know what yours "is," only listed what "was" in 1956.

Tony W,

Thanks!

A little research and I think the bow I bought this afternoon is identified, but probably not.  The bow is a 55#, 68" Kodiak Special with brown glass bellie and a sage-greenish/gray back and one shelf.  The serial number is XE493. Anybody have an idea what year it is?  Any imput is appreciated.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

1955 or 1956... '55 will have water transfer decals, '56 will have silk screens.
I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.
