I recently picked up a Bear Takedown. It's the "A" riser and the paint is in rough shape. Thinking about refinishing it myself. Opinions needed. And has anyone ever considered bead blasting the old finish off ? Thanks, Tony Z.

if you decide to bead blast remember Mag means magnesium so be careful. I know some shops will not bead blast magnesium because it can start a fire. I used aircraft stripper on mine. Then I had it buffed before I had it painted that took out the roughness.

After stripping, what paint did you use?  Use a primer first?  How many coats, etc?  Thanks

Good question Tom. I have an A handle to refinish. Would like to know myself.

Dan says:

"Check your local area for powder coating shops. If you're in a hurry or want a specific color they don't have it may cost you more. Be a little flexible let them keep it until they have a run of that color and it should be very affordable. Motorcycle and car guys get it done all the time check there is you don't find any specific shops."

I have had a Hoyt riser power coated in the past. It was less expensive than having my Mag. riser painted by auto paint shop. IME the paint has held up better to the bumps and bruises bows seem to get no matter how much we care for them.
