Where to buy old Bears?

Where do you guys buy the old Kodiaks?  I don't know where to look other than the auction house.  Thanks.

Other than the auction house, I have bought/sold at 3-D events, archery trade shows, classified ads on archery internet sites, posted my own "want ad" on these sites, surfed Craigslist, sent emails to collectors/acquaintances, visited pawn shops and sporting goods stores.

I got one of my favorites, a 70 pound '64 Kodiak "thunker," right here on the TG classifieds.



Not the cheapest way to collect, but probably the most honest deal for both buyer and seller.

In other words, I could get my money back easily, but this is not the way to make a fast buck.

Alan, i dont know what years you are looking for but there is a real nice 66 kodiak in the classifieds right now.I think several 62's too.You could put a WANTED in the classifieds and chances are good someone would have about anything you are looking for. Like Tony said, you may pay a little more here than some other places but at least you will know what your getting.I have been told by several people here that know what they are talking about, that the old grizzlys will shoot as well or better than the Kodiaks and not cost as much too.

I've been looking for an affordable 1959 Kodiak in great condition everywhere.

So far I have not found one anywhere.

(I think I need to spend more time working on my time machine.)

Tony,me too though affordable to me is prolly a lot less than it is for others.I dont even mind if its in rough condition as long as i can put new tip overlays and refinish it because i am more interested in having one i can shoot and not so much a collecter grade one.Even more, i want a 59 kodiak special.To me those are the most beautifull of all.

I bought my first on the big auction site about 10 years ago, It was a 60" 1966 Kodiak in great condition for $120. I bought a '54 Compass Kodiak in an antique store for $20, so like Tony said, you can get them anywhere and everywhere, just gotta look!

I had always wanted a 59', but just didn't have patience to compete with you guys, and most times they go for as much as a new one.  So I got a new one and don't regret it a bit.  I could see how the search would be half the fun though.

I ordered a new 59 and after waiting for six months and no new bow I started bidding on the auction site.  Bought one and darned if they didn't both arrive on the same day.  The 59 is in very good base condition as to the riser and limbs with only one small stress line.  I'm restoring as we speak.

I may have three of the 59 Kodiak Specials.  I know that I have one in the shop that I am retipping and it appears that I have a couple on the rack.  I would have to get them down to be sure that they are not sixtys.  PM me if you want to trade something.
