Noise maker heads

Top head is a replica of a Chinese war head, not only whistles but will penetrate and cut-3 blade
Next is a German made screw-in that whistles. It can also be taken apart to clean dirt from holes.
The red one is plastic and whistles real nice, but doesn't survive impact very well.
The orange head at the bottom I have no idea who or where it's from. It has a shotgun primer glued into the far end and the arrow can slide forward at impact to fire the primer. There may have been a BB inside to help, it's not there now.

The red one's do work rather well.I was kind of a fan of the explodeing heads ? I guess they are supposed to chase game back towards you.I never did try any and thought something explodeing in dry grass may not be so safe and sane....bowdoc

No No No. These are Fred's sonic pods, designed to give game a heart attack. They were modeled after the terror inducing sirens used by Stuka dive bombers. m.r. james is currently investigating Fred's German roots to see if he can link him to the Luftwaffe.

Thanks Raghorn working on making one now, kinda looks like the top one. Is the German one hollow? Looks like a field point with a hole through it, that design might suit my intended purpose better.

The bullet whistle point Raghorn pictured works okay and yes, its hollow. Depending on target/ground material one needs to clean it almost every shot and thats a pain - always unscrewing it. Anyways, I have seen (and heard) folks shot these on 3D-shots, quite contrary to the present trend of ever lighter tips, so I think it was an exception and just for the fun of it.

But, the one head which I found to be the closest in it's ability to whistle is this here:

Can it therefor be assumed, that a "Patriot" always makes the most noise ...?

I really like that 'last-chance' point :D Would you consider parting with one? However, I guess sending it might be difficult and/or you may be find yourself sacked for putting a letter-bomb on it's way

BTW Doc, the best German Luftwaffe equipment was just rebuild in your backyard. So you maybe had the pleasure of seeing her on her test flys whereas I had to wait until her first public display over here in 2006

Thanks Doc for putting a name on the exploding head. Yours is slightly different from mine , but close enough!
Someplace I saw the plans to make a whistling head from a PingPong ball. I believe there were triangle shaped holes cut in the ball.

Yes, I made a couple with the ping pong ball and they really work...but only for a couple shots. My balls were starting to dent

I've got a few pack's of Last Chance exploding tips,
they are not quit as loud as a black cat firecracker,I shot a cinder block wall (and yes, I hit it) it left a nice little chip and a 3 inch black mark,so I'm with BD not a great idea in fire country.It has to hit something pretty hard to work.

I'm going to try a few of the home made options. Tracy and I really have had to tighten the spending and I think I'd rather put our limited resources into something more practical. However I have a great shop and a friend with an even better one!This would be funnest if no one noticed the arrow point was a little different so I'm thinking the ping pong and bottle tips aren't quite subtle enough.

this is the brass point as shown in Raghorn's youtube link. Its been the favorit on the kids arrows of a buddy.
The steel version (shown on top) is nothing but a regular RPS-Blunt with a thread cut into it and a taped (word?) parallel bullet point field point which thus can be screwed on. The blunt is shortened however and drilled out to reduce weight and to enlarge the "sound chamber". I tried to build some the same way but had only tapered ferrule field points and it did not work out so well. The steel version, as above, weights 165gr.

OK go to thinking "whats the easiest way to make a sound chamber?" A tube! "What do you have on hand that is a tube with the end closed?" A spent 44mag shell! So I cut one so the top was just below the flare of a field point, knocked out the primer and re sized the seat to accept a field point shaft. I then necked out the shell as far as I could and beveled the edge. Drop in the field point, screw on the arrow and you have a head that makes a wicked sounding hiss. Crimp opposite sides against the field point and the hiss gets louder. Longer shell is louder till you get ahead of the flare in the field point. Found a couple of wood versions to try too. Did I mention we are down to 4 hours of semi daylight now?
