flight bow

Here are a few shots of my flight bow with an assortment of arrows. The bow is 50" and pulls right about 65#. These arrows range from 24 1/2" to 26 1/2 and the fletching's (vanes?) are 1 1/4" to 2 1/8".
Have any of you guy's shot in a flight compitition? At our P and Y shoot it isn't included in the competitions anymore.

Nice bow how far did you shoot? There a few flightshooters here OL is one of them. I did hold the world record for the English longbow. I still hold the american longbow record of 446 yards. Marlon

well yes I have.I actually used to flight test hunting weight and style bows with hunting weight and spined arrows as aposed to actual say a Harry Drake flight bow.Although I have flight shot several of Harry's bows and loaded a pic of one of Harry's flight arrows.But i was a bit more into figureing out how far a hunting bow would shoot.One thing I will mention flight shooting is a ton of fun.Please check out the pic I loaded of the size of plastic fletchings those guy's used to use.bowdoc

The flight arrows had no tips,but rather a footed shaft with just enough weight to make the arrow fly the correct direction.Again I surely do miss the old flight testing it was great fun.And believe me you will learn alot about arrow cast rather then arrow speed.Thats for sure.bowdoc

Thanks marlon, congratulations on your records, very impressive! I have not shot it at a distance yet, but some of the arrows have 408, 424 etc.. written on them.
very cool doc, how far did you get a hunting setup to fly? And I love that Drake arrow! The tiny aluminum looking vanes are amazing,thanks for the pic. Is it tapered front and back? Here's a shot showing the tips, do you know why some are blunts? It makes sence that the footed shaft would sail farther. The neatest flight arrow I have seen had tiny barred feathers and what looked to be ivory nock and tip.
