I am a new traditional archery guy just getting started. I have had this bow for years, and never shot it. A friend gave it to me years ago.
I have gathered so far that I need a 56" dacron string. I am looking for some history on this bow also. Not that I want to get rid of it, but I am querious of the value of the bow.

Hello and welcome

My guess is that you have a Gainesville Florida Kodiak Hunter. That means it's built after 1978.

I say this because of the serial number. I know that the Kodiak Hunters were built in Grayling Michigan between 1967 and 1977. In the 60s, the serial numbers of all the Bear bows including the Kodiak Hunters, started with the last diget of the production year. (ex: 1967 = 7, 1968 = 8 and 1969 = 9). In the 70s, all of the Bear bows had serial number starting with a K followed by a model code letter. The Kodiak Hunters serials started with KT, The Super Kodiaks with a KZ, The Grizzlys with KR, the Magnum with KU and so on...

Now, your bow has a KH... I'm a little bit in the dark now... The Gainseville plan must have built Kodiak Hunters after 1977 ? I don't know exactly but I have a feeling someone will, yet again, teach me a new thing soon.

I just realized that Bear archery still produces Grizzlys... I don't know what the serial numbers look like on these newer models. My bet is that they start with KH.

1976/1978 I have three with Ser# starting with KH... Greenie with green/gray overlays...

Do you know why the serial number changed from KT to KH?

It might be because they were now built from Futurwood?

I found this info :

67 to 68 - shedua riser- green glass
69 - tigerwood riser - grey glass
70 - Pau ferro bubinga - grey
71 - Shedua bubinga - grey
72 - same as 71 with either flat or raised bear emblem

73 to 76- green futurewood - green glass
77 - green futurewood - random dark glass
78 - brown futurewood - random dark glass

Is it a green one? Most kodiak hunters are worth about $150. Sometimes a little more or a little less.

Yeah I know this is kind of hard to read.But here is the paper work from a 1976 Kodiak Hunter I purchased brand new on 7-31-76.I gotta say yours is a 1976.Green and blue future wood overlays.Great shooting bow.bd

Hang on to it, and have fun with it. Those old K-hunters are great bows. I have one in my collection. Master that bow and you can take almost any game and have a very tough and durable bow to boot.

Those are good bows. I like the later ones like that with futurewood overlays.

Those are sturdy and stable bows. Like I say, the value I'd guess about 150 maybe a little higher.
