Question about the supper Kodiak

OK I'll do the research myself too but the best resource I can think of is you guys so, I'm looking to add a super Kodiak to the family.(Big shocker hu?) I'm wondering about the 67 supper Kodiak and how too identify one myself. I understand it has the nich name the "Bowling ball"? What do I look for in the SN? What coin should it have? Is there a "Dating bear bows for dummies with no extra time because they have a 2 year old"?

black phenolic riser, brass raised bear coin, serial number starts with 7. Mine is serial number 7Z1***, hope this helps.

The '67 Super Kodiak is what it is.  All phenolic.  The '68 & '69 were phenolic with rosewood caps.

When a '67 is totaly cherry with the original, or new finish, it is striking.  Personally, I don't think any of the Super K's are as good shooters as the kodiaks of previous years.  I sold my '64 Kodiak for $15.00 when I bought a new '68 Super Kodiak in '68...Big Mistake.

I agree with Simon...flush coin.  I know Chuck knows better; he must have just had a brain fart.

no, I was describing the coin correctly, it is not the "flat bear" coin as I call them (i.e. the copper or pewter coins) whereas the bear on the brass coin is raised or two demensional not flat. There are flat bear brass coins out there.  You are thinking of the raised medallion that Bear started using in the early 70's.

I know the 67 is the "holy grail" of Super K's (OK except for the red one) - but I personally likes the looks of the 68 and 69's much better. Those Rosewood caps just do it for me. And they didn't have the "creasing problem" in the grip area that 67 1/2's seem to have.

Well I know it's historic and the birth date tie in is really cool but I'm not warming up to the 67 1/2. The real clincher is that if I understand the sources correctly a Michigan super K is impossible. Tracy wasn't at all wild about it either. What dose the 1975 super K look like,? Tracy's birth year.

They made Super Kodiaks in Michigan up until 1976.

Rick - I love mine. It is quite a shooter. Mine is a mint condition 45 pounder. As Novalyn stated it is a "blue striper"

That would be a 1976 I believe... The laminations on the  front of the riser are wood (futurewood). The 75 model would have Black and white glass. At least that's what I read online...

You are correct it is a 1976. I was just showing him what the blue stripe and the future wood looks like. I don't have a 75 to show him but this one is pretty close.

I have a '75 Super Kodiak and really like it.  Pretty much like Bill's '76 model but with white overlays on the front of the riser.  I think they are great shooting bows and for me, very quiet.

All Bear bows up to 1978 were made in Grayling Michigan.

The serial number should start with KZ
