Here's a new acquisition- 50# 1995 Howatt Hunter, Purpleheart riser, like new. Thanks Howattman for helping me with info on this one. CKruse

I got lucky again... I don't think this one had ever made it out of the house. CKruse

What year did they become Martin Hunters?

What year was the break from the original Howatts, and the new Howatt company after Damon Howatt passed away and it was sold..

I like the old Howatts.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.

Jack, those questions would be best addressed to Howattman. This one is not marked "Martin" at all. I believe it was about 1997 that they got the Martin labeling. If you do some searching under Howattman's handle on stickbow, there is a wealth of information posted by him and Larry Hatfield. By the way, PM me with your address- I've been putting together a small care package for you! CKruse

Very nice. You can't go wrong with a Howatt..or Martin Hunter. This is a rare one. I've only seen a few before, one on da bay, and one year saw a couple at Denton hill on the blankets.

Gail and Eva Martin purchased the Damon Howatt Archery Manufacturing Co. name and facilities in 1976 from Bob Paisley, who bought it from Damon himself in 1964(ish).  Damon sold the Howatt Plant before he died in 1965. (He was killed in a car accident while returning home from a fishing trip.)

Martin continued to use the "DH" logo (see my avatar) and/or marking the bows "By Howatt" or simply "Howatt" until the late 1990's. From that time to the present, all Howatt-made recurves and longbows have been marked with the Martin logo and/or name.

Ckruse's bow is pretty special.  The purpleheart Hunters were only made for a short time (1995 to 1996).

I couldn't resist. Now I will have one too. I love those bows!

I saw that. I was hoping someone from our crew would get it. Looks like a pretty good deal, too. Congrats, CKruse

I always liked the Howatt or Martin Hunters. They shoot great, don't stack. I have 3 of em. One from the 1960s, a new model, and now a purpleheart one.

Back when I posted this, someone PM'ed me stating a special interest in this bow. I'm thinking of selling it, but would like to give that person first shot at it. Problem is, I can't remember who! Help me out if you voiced interest in this one. CKruse
