I found a very very nice Herters Perfection recurve Ser# 52 062006 it is 54lbs @28 inches and lefthanded. The decals are mint looking and I was wondering what this bow might be worth before I make an offer on it. Thanks

PAPALAPIN

We generally try not to "appraise" bows here.  The value of a bow is very subjective and is dependant on a lot of factors.  here is no "book value" on any bow.

The rule of thumb is that it is worth what someone will pay, no more - no less.

Your best bet is to go to the auction site we must no name and search under completed items.  However, thos bows sold there may not be in as good shape as the one you are considering.

Herters bows are worth more to real Herters enthusiest than to other collectors.  That is personal.  Herters bows are generally great shooters, but not high on most collectors list.  Now, this statement might get me skewered but a Farbenglas shaft. but I think it is accurate.

Your question should not be "what is the bow worth", rather "what is the bow worth to you".  Figure that out and you will have your answer.

Buy it.  Shoot it.  Enjoy it.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.

I have about a dozen old Herters bows. Every one in near new condition. PAPALAPIN is correct. Personally I have paid between $75 - $250 for them, just depended on which one and how bad I wanted it   :)

EDIT

Just wanted to add I collect them for sentimental reasons, me and my family and friends all grew up bowhunting with them in the 60's and 70's. Some bargains to be had considering the amount of Rosewood you can get for your money!  ;)

Those huge riser Herter's had a habit of delaminating at the base of the limbs where the large curve is. Check this area out good before purchasing. Use a magnifying glass to check out this area. If there is a problem there you will have nothing but a large piece of rosewood to sell to a knife maker.

Serial number say's it is 52" and a 1962 model? Is the serial number missing a digit?
