For the experienced bear hunters here, do you agree or disagree with this pic of the placement of the vitals on this bear?
Reason I ask, is in '09 i will be hunting  saskatchewan and want to make sure i'm aiming in the right place.
thanks,
sammy

I agree it is about perfect. 8" circle mid body behind shoulder ='s dead bear everytime.

I've seen way too many bears wounded and not recovered.  A single lung hit bear will NOT be recovered.... No doubt at all.

Wait for a broadside or quartering with the front leg forward. If your hunting bait take your time, there is no need to hurry. Calm down and wait for the perfect shot. Anything less is just not ethical.

Good luck, you will love Canada.

One thing this pic doesn't show well is the amount of fur hanging down at the belly. But that shouldn't be much problem. Judging the bear is much tougher. They are notorious for ground shrinkage.Good luck. If you are going late May to early June the rut will be going and often the boars don't hang around the bait much unless there is a hot sow. The advice to be patient is great, just don't be surprised if he walks right by.

Good point Sparrow...the hair will fool ya!

Smallwood, if you haven't decided yet, you might wantto consider a big 3 blade. Bears aren't all that tough and their hair and fat will plug a hole and absorb blood.
