cape buffalo arrows

Here are a few pictures of the arrows I'm planning on using this October on a buffalo hunt. I'm using 190 grain grizzly with a 125 grain steel broadhead adapter. I had a buddy make some brass bushing that the broadhead adapter would screw into. Then there is a brass sleeve that goes over the bushing and the arrow. The sleeve has a smaller diameter than the ferrule of the broadhead. The total weight is 850 grains with a FOC of 30%. They fly out of my bow at 160 fps.  Hopefully this will do the trick. I've not tried to post pictures here before so hopefully this will work.

where will you be hunting? you gonna try walk and stalk or hunting from hides or tree stand?

What spine shaft are you using. I'm having fits trying to find a shaft to use with my 84# BW

I'm going to be hunting with McDonald's out of Mozambique. It will be all spot and stalk. The arrow shafts that I am using are the older AFC 2400. Those are the little soda straw looking ones. I wish someone would start making them again because they really penetrate well and especially with the extreme FOC they penetrate really good.

DW, Seems like an aweful lot of work. I used the PSE shafts with the heavy fuzzy weight tubes and got an easily tunable 850gr arrow.

Buff, I would think that the 300 carbons would work for you.

I used to like those AFC shafts but the dang outserts are the weak spot on those buggers.

Buff, I know what you mean, having a hard time getting carbons stiff enough. I haven't done this, but a thought I have just now is too try standard GT75/95s or CX350s weighted-up however much you please, and build the strike plate out with leather or a match stick. But then, I really like having a cut-past-centre bow, too.

[/Ben   I got it.... ... heratiage 350 shaft with 20" of beaman shaftup front, 8 " of 8 grain per inch weight tube, 100 grain brass insert, 180 grain head. a dead even 900 grain arrow and it bare shafts perfect .QUOTE]

The sleeve that I am using does away with the original outsert. The crush strength of that brass sleeve is rated at 36000psi. The broadhead in the picture is new and I haven't done anything to modify it as of yet. I definately will though. Robertson, any thing you can tell me about hunting buffalo would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Concerning the "modified grizzly" you should do it the way the " Doc " do it .

To reduce the widht to an inch or less .

What poundage will be your Bow ?

I manage to build an carbon arrow flying really good with a total weight of 986 grains , but
i wiil have maybe the chance to try it this season .

Nothing special about buffalo hunting as long as you get the right arrow , the right broadhead and you wait for the right angle at the right distance at the right spot    :D
