Mechanical release....

Ok I've posted a bit about his before and I'm still struggling with it.  I "ruptured" my biceps tendon and after the surgery I can't turn my wrist 90 degrees to  grab the string.

 I've experimented with a home made strap release but it's not great.  I'm wondering if anyone is aware of a mechanical release that doesn't require the shooter pulling a trigger?  I envision a caliper release that I can hold under my thumb and simply release the sensing to fire the shot.  It see teems to me that this is more like shooting with fingers than reaching over to hit a trigger.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Winn makes a glove type release that has a trigger but you don't pull it to release the string, you let it go.  It's called a Free Flyte, I think.  You hold back the trigger after you lock the string in and draw, when you get to your anchor point you simply relax your finger and the calipers will open and release the string.

Nala, thanks so much for your information.  That's what I've had in mind but all of my searching couldn't find it.  I've sent off an email to the company and I'm hoping (praying) that it can work for me.

Graps I experimented with that idea but I can't turn my arm to grasp the string so unfortunately it won't work.

They both are held and shot perpendicular to the string.

I have one of the Wynn relax trigger releases that I would give you if you want to try it.

Have you considered a shooters thumb ring? If you can get your thumb around the string and catch your thumb with your index finger to help hold pressure, it might work for you.

I was just giving this some more thought and I remembered the head of the release actually swivels over quite a range...I would guarantee that you can make it work...as I recall the instructions that came with my first one suggested pinching the trigger between the thumb and index finger as being the best way to use it...very little pressure is required to do that...what Winn will tell you is that the head was called a C12 and they discontinued it due to lack of sales quite some time ago

And of course the other thing they will tell you, now that I have actually checked out their website, is that they have reintroduced the C12 plus added a hook version...somewhere in all that choice you are going to be very pleased

If you check a web site called primitive pathways the fellow there has a rather unique release. If I remember right he has some sort of joint disease and cannot hold the bow weight with his fingers so her uses a thumb ring and a large d-loop tied to the string. You might give it a try.
