I am trying to bare shaft tune some arrows through a paper target at about 8 ft. No matter where I put my nock point it shows the nock end of the arrow tipping up a bit as it goes through the paper. I use a nock square and have tried every thing from 1/16 low to 1/2 " high and all points between, but something seems to be flipping the nock end up. The best I have done is the bottom of my arrow about 1/16 above square. Any reply welcome.

I've been dealing with the same problem.  Are you hearing a loud noise upon release of the arrow?  Through video and audio I discovered that the back of my shaft was striking the shelf upon exit.  This was the result of the nock high flight, and also prevented nock set adjustments from making any difference.

I'm not sure if this is the problem with which you are dealing, but I finally discovered that I could correct it by inserting a piece of leather under the rug on the rest (I've also heard of folks using a section of a toothpick in the same manner).  This raised up the rest by about 1/8" and decreased the amount of surface area that the arrow contacts on the rest.  I'm not sure of the physics of it, but it helped to alleviate the problem for me.

Sometimes when you are showing nock high you need to set your nocking point "higher", i know it's sounds opposit but sometimes thats what it is... also it's not uncommon for trad bows nocking points to be 9/16th - 11/16th high. Like I said it doesnt sounds right but sometimes you need to raise your nocking point.

If you build up your arrow rest so it is about 1/8" above the shelf and no wider than the shaft, the problen will go away. A wise old sage who is no longer with us taught me this trick.

Blanchard that is right on, you want minimum amount of contact with the shelf as possible. that's the first thing I do when I'm setting up a bow to shoot off the shelf is place leather, tooth pick, etc. under a rug rest or whatever.

This sounds right on ! I'll try this right away. Thanks to all !!!

Well, I put a narrow strip of leather under the rug like Blanchard suggested and it worked wonders ! Thanks again. Now I can start to work on the spine.

I shoot with my nock point 5/8" above the shelf.
