MN bowbuilding weekend reminder

I got a Christmas card from ole '46 today (thanks George) and a reminder that I need to refresh everyone's memory as to what weekend people are invited to my home to build bows and knives.

June 8,9 and 10th. Friday the focus would be on glue ups if people are interrested in laminates.

I just finished my shop this week and I'm excited about that. We have 19 acres with a lot of room for camping along the crick. Very nice setting for this type of thing. I live 10 miles south of the Brainerd lakes area which is abound with recreational opportunities as well as shopping for the ladies. I live 1 mile from Crow Wing campground for those who would want more modern camping.

I would like this to be a free event for people but am concerned a little with liability. Should I look into insurance, waivers, etc? Thanks, Chad

Chad, I have the date on my calendar. You may want to talk to the agent that carries your home owners insurance. I wouldn't think it sould be a problem.

I don't know much about building a bow but wouldn't mind seeing how it's done. I'll be watching this thread for sure. Obviously close enough I wouldn't have to be much of a burden.

Putting it in my calendar the weekend before the rapids' trad shoot ! Good stuff for sure.

(Insurance waivers shouldn't be an issue for people to sign.)

Thanks for the response guys. I think this will be really fun. Tim this would be a great chance to build a first bow. I could teach you what I know in a few minutes then others could straighten you out. Chad

Actually sounds like fun. I've got it down on the outlook calendar but have my daughters birthday party most likely that weekend (so it doesn't interfere with the rapids' shoot

I'll be there!. Let me know if there is anything I can bring. I can load up the Bandsaw if you think it would be helpful to have another one on hand?

Don't dilly dally about your decision Greg. Tell us how you really feel.

If things work out, I have a bandsaw available too. Bandsaw and a little smooth on epoxy is all we need right ? Right ? :D (I actually have no idea ....)

I think I can make at least one day of this educational shindig. The generosity here is overwhelming at times.

I have a bunch of osage staves I cut five years ago while living in Kansas. My intention was to learn bow building but never have. I would be happy to bring what I have to the gathering in July if anyone is interested in selfbows.

I think I will be in Nisswa that weekend for a Scandamahovian music and dance thing! Dang! I know it is close by but I would get in too much trouble if I stuck a stave or two in the back of the vehicle and then disapeared half a day or more!

Creole, I'd be interested in buying a stave from you then. Would need some assistance from someone on how to carve it up though.
This is starting to sound like more and more fun all the time.

Some people have offered to bring a bandsaw. I think my saw would be plenty. Things we could use is a big sander. Mine is marginal. We may need bow forms, heat boxs, etc if a lot of people want to laminate. My box will fit 2 forms so that would tie the box up for 12 hours. Ole '46 is going to do a BBO/selfbow demo right George? Bucksnort, I won't sell you a stave. You can have one or more. My pleasure. The stuff has been seasoning for five years in my garage and its time to put to good use.

Here's what I could bring:
-TD bow hot box 48" long.
-Form for Bingham pronounced TD longbow limbs
-Riser profile and drill jig for above
-limb profile jig for above
-Bamboo flooring for core lams
-Planed down bamboo staves 36" for core lams
-Red elm for core lams
-Delta 220v 6" x 48" belt sander w/12" disc (48" total belt length not flat length, does OK during final shaping limbs), its a behemoth, wierd plug, I could get a hernia loading this thing.
-Lam grinder and sleds for parallel and .002- home made
-Delta 1 1/2 hp 1 micron dust collector, takes a lot of current in 110 v mode.
-Bag targets
Don't know how much of this stuff might fit in my vehicle.
Need to at least see how the selfbows and BBO are made, and shoot them.
