Yooper, that is an absolute stud buck! The snow in the background just makes it that much cooler.

Also, is that a porcupine a few posts back?

Thank you!  It was a great hunt!

Yes it's a porky.

I was cleaning in my workshop last week and found this blast from the past picture that fits the 40-45lb harvest criteria.  I took this buck in 2007 with my favorite longbow (and still my favorite shooting bow ever), a Thunderstick that pulls 42#@27" and has been with me 20+ years now.  I was 26 then.....almost 40 now  :biglaugh:

Talk about inspiration! This has been some great reading. Awesome stuff from everyone and hopefully I can contribute soon.

I am not a big picture taker but surface it to say I have taken a pretty good bunch of deer and a few other critters with bows from 40-45#

I still have a 52# Black Widow PLX that I shoot a bit.  Its kept in reserve for a time when I may get a chance at something larger although that opportunity is rapidly diminishing.  My go to is a  PLII 45@28 with a new PLX Osage and Cocobolo 39@ 28 hanging on the wall  behind me, and an old Dacron string MA III 45# @28 also available for use.

Well this has been inspiring , I just read all 27 pages. I've never hunted with anything much less than 56 lbs , even through several surgeries and such. Last year I found I had the big C which resulted in surgery and a couple different treatment plans and such, which for now have me doing well but kinda beat down. So I ordered a 45@27 longbow from my buddy Dave Albright. I was really concerned about dropping bow and arrow weight but the new bow really does well with a 500 grain arrow , this thread has instilled new confidence after reading and seeing all the success stories and pics. So thanks guys hopefully I can contribute this fall.

I have been shooting a 40# HHA Cheetah a lot this spring while working on form, and I may just deer hunt with some. It is really fun to shoot. I shoot wood arrows that are 5/16" in diameter. What size arrows do you regular shooters/hunters use? I have some in 11/32", but I just prefer the way the smaller 5/16 shafts shoot. I don't know if the lighter arrows significantly affect the performance. They are very accurate and I am totally confident out to 15 yd. or a trifle more. Thanks for your help.

Got some light stuff that should be ready this year some time.  Hopefully I will be able to contribute before too long.
