Well Dalton, some people do see a benefit, because many times there is one...and Moose and Bison might should be added to the list along with heavy shielded boars.  Unless you can always, and I mean always, make the perfect shot into the small soft spot.....big sharks and big gators.

Nice pics guys n gals...thanks for sharing!
Didnt mean to sound combative at all, i just meant i personally cant justify bumping up in weight to hunt anything in NC. For things that would be unique for me like elk, moose, grizz, or tatonka i can definitely see the need to shoot more, luckily for me, this most of the time means bigger vitals because i sure as heck cant be as accurate with more weight.    :knothead:

Like i said though, no disrespect meant at all.

I just got a 45@27 thunderchild from Big Jim. I feel good with it and know if I shoot straight it will get it done.RC

Well, it doesn't count until I see some pics of that bow Robert, l.  I know you will get it done.

This thread is very encouraging. I have been struggling with age and injury related shoulder arthritis, and it is obvious that I need to move down in draw weight (again) to prevent the total ruination of my shoulder joint. The fact that a well tuned bow in the 40-45 pound range will still get the job done on most North American big game means that I can keep hunting with a bow well into my retirement years.

Joe....you have me very interested in those Centaurs for sure.  I'm going to order some Battle Axes and have a little chat with him.

Terry... I am amazed by the performance of the Centaur bows. The one I have is used but fairly new -- and I have an upgraded, higher-performance model on order. I'll fill you in on what I know and send you some photos.

Terry,

I also shoot a centaur.. It is such a good bow.  I don't know that I have held a better bow in my hands.. yet.  Not saying they don't exist, just saying I like this one the most.

I think what's important is to shoot a well tuned bow that you are accurate and confident with.
Personally, I practice for the animals that I hunt(hogs and deer),that translates to close shots with a bow I can handle.
I've lost count of how many hogs I've seen killed with bows under 45# draw weight(several under 40#). I don't know that we've had a hunter in camp (in 6 years) that's had a bow 60# or above.Just my 2 cents. Great pics! Keep em coming.

Don't make me come down there with a heavy bow, lol.

One of the best threads I've ever read no matter what the bow weight is . It is encouraging to see all the game taken with bows in the 40's . As I get older I have full confidence that I can take game effectively moving down in weight after reading thru this thread.
