Some very nice animals taken with 40-45# bows. Just goes to show, sharp broadheads and proper shot placement will get the job done as long as you stay within your ESR. Thanks to all for sharing your pics and info.

You need to add "well tuned" to that list too.

Well, I may be changing somethings in the bow department but, my weight range will still be the same. Seems I am being bitten by the t/d recurve bug!

Thanks Bisch. Forgot to mention the well tuned arrow, which is just as important as the sharp brodheads and proper shot placement, which all should work in unison. Man we are helpers one of another.

Wannabe1, Great tread. Shows us what a well tuned bow with sharp broad heads can do. Awesome.

Cow elk taken with a 41# Quinn Stallion and 630 gr. arrow with Zwickey 2 blade.  20" penetration!

Hog Heaven 2010. 46# @28" with a 550 grain footed hex shaft and 124 grain Eclipse. Quartering away shot with about 16" penetration.

This P&Y class Bull was taken by one of our club members a few years back. He had some shoulder issues that year and couldn't pull his normal weight. Worked into this 41# Recurve. (40# required by law) Don't know what broadhead but had a front loaded carbon.

It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

That's it I'm going moose hunting!

light poundage works fine, and in a high performance bow will better heavier bows. my 46lb acs shoots the same 650gr arrow as my 61lb d shape bow 9 fps faster, it will throw a 505 gr arrow at 176fps which is just 8 fps slower than 58lb pch. my 49lb morrison dakota wiyh carbon/foam hits just as hard as a 58lb pch with the same arrow.

great pics guys

Wanted to bring this up top to show my boy that a lower weight bow can be effective.

Good thread to answer all the "is my setup ok for ____________".

You fill in the animal on the blank.

The question gets asked often by newer shooters and this should help them understand what well put together/tuned equiptment can do in the woods.

Not trying to start anything with those that shoot heavier bows. Many EXCELLENT shooters/hunters use much heavier weight bows. And everyone should shoot the bow that they are MOST accurate with. For me it's 50 to 58 pounds depending on the bow.

Great thread for anyone that needs or is most comfortable with a lighter poundage bow.
