I left Keith and walked down and west to meet up with Doug who was stalking his way into a creek crossing where we were to meet up.

The plan was for us to go up this special hollow bout a hundred yards and split up left and right for another 2 or 3 hundred yards or so where we could guard several finger ridge dump offs in the bottom.

We only made it in about 50 yards and we found two piles of bear scat....fresh bear scat....the kind you want to find and hunt over fresh.  As we move a head a few more yards and started our split I saw more piles and whistled for Doug.  We regrouped and observed the white oak destruction laying on the ground before us.  We also heard a 'squirrel' in a tree about 30 yards away.  So we looked for the 'squirrel' and were content that there was no big black squirrel in the tree and discussed that Doug would come back and hunt this tree if he didn't find a more likely area around to the left where he was headed.....and I would stay my course....so we split....but not for long....Doug veered 15 yards left, and I veered 15 yards right.....and it was ON!!!....

It was "on like donkey kong" it sounds like!!!!

Don' stop now.

Now there is story telling, and there is just being mean. hahaha

Five arras in a bear! Musta been one big mean A$$ bear. I would have put my money on a big old hog for sure once you said five arras.

I'm trying guys!!!!....beats all I ever seen...the phones are ringing off the hook.  I'm heading to lunch with the FG...and will be back later this afternoon.

BTW...I only called home to make sure my girls didn't get go to bed till I got home...and my mom who worries over me something fierce over my hunting passion.  No time to call anyone else as Doug and I just kept replaying all the details all the way down the mountain and and on the pavement all the way home.

Dave....not five arrows...five HOLES....just 3 arrows.  

Ughhhhh?! Not sure how to do that math.

Ive been watching this thread since 7:30am and still no photos! I think im gonna go crazy      

OK....so, Doug and I are now 30 yards apart...and yells in a whisper, yeah, hunters can do that ya know...."Bear! - Bear Right Here! - Right Here"!

I start looking and nocking an arrow but see no bear anywhere...Doug whisper yells a little louder, "Right here in Tree get over here"!!!  So, I quickly move toward Doug in a haste watching my steps down and through the creek all the while trying to look up and see the bear.  After clearing the creek I see Doug looking straight up!!!  He's 6 feet from the tree and I look up and spotted blacky as well and moved in to within about 10 feet.  The bear is now on to us and is manuvering to get a better view of the what's going on below.  Bad move on the bear's part....

Now, I don't really know how to judge bear sizes other than small, medium, and large....and I knew this one was a medium but a shooter for sure.  I've passed up plenty of 'small' medium legal shooters in passed years, and mommas with cubs, but sure had fun messing with them, and had a few close calls with some on the large size that didn't come together.  

All I know was I was on the ground with a longbow and it looked like a medium shooter to me 70 feet up in that white oak.  I also know when I'm offered a 'target'....and one appeared.

Blacky was positioned in the 'U' shaped fork of the trunk and a big limb and had both front legs through the fork and was peering down at us.  I saw the position and all I had to do was put the arrow right under it's chin and right over the fork.  Hence the title of the thread....

Doug was looking at the same place I was, but had no idea I was drawing the bow, and when he saw my bright fletched arrow with that mini hatchet on the end enter the chest just under the chin....he didn't whisper, instead he very audibly said "UH - OH!!!!"

It had officially hit the fan!!!!!....
