It's been a very long time, Gents. 15 years?

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's life has interrupted their boyer hobby.

I now have an 8yo son who is pretty ate up with bows and bow hunting. I started him at probably age 3, with a 33" R/D longbow that i built for a friends son some 15 years ago. He graduated to compounds as he outgrew the little long bow and now hunts pigs with one. Being as ADD as his dad, he wants to go back to a trad bow for small game hunting (he obviously cant draw enough weight to hunt big game or pigs with trad at this point).

I still have my tooling, heat box, forms, and even some materials, but my log book seems to have disappeared and I have zero recollection of lam schedules. So, I'm back today in search of some help.

I'm thinking a standard long bow, 52-54" long, 1" wide or so and 20lb at 20". He's currently 4' tall, but growing like a weed, so that should give him a year or two of growth.

Does anyone have a lam schedule they would share so I can send an order to Kenny?

Thank y'all,

Steve

I built a 50" D/R years ago and have the stack here...

2 - .030 glass
2 veneers @ .020
1 (.002) taper @ .090
1(.001) taper at .050

14" riser

24#@22"

Might be close at 20"

I'd go with a .002 taper max, don't need that much taper I'm thinkin

I'm thinkin Jess Stuart does 1" wide longbows

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Honestly I think you should give building a shorty bow more thought for longevity for the boy. You said it yourself, he's growing like a weed. I think I'd recommend going up to a 60" or even 62" long bow and give him some room as his draw length stretches out.

Another option is considering a TD bow with lighter weight limbs to start,  and you can build heavier limbs down the road a bit, or just build two sets now.

.02 cents worth...

Kenny, was your stack for a 1.5 or 1 inch bow.  Thanks

kennym

That was for 1.5" but narrowed to 1.375ish at fades when done...
Stay sharp, Kenny.
