Put that thing to work!

Terry Green

I just got this 900 as a gift from Troy Burns. I suppose its going to look more like a longbow when strung.  She needs to go to Patrick's beauty shop. Not sure of the reason but this one is heavier in the hand than the other one I have.

Many thanks Troy!!!   Pics added here in a second....

Nice!!!  I got the recurve 100 model @50# for the cost of postage.  Frantically, awaiting the D97 string for it.

The 10 rings D-97 arrived, 58 1'4", so I twisted it up and have the brace height at @6 1/4".  The string is laying on the limb curves about right.  I'll shoot it in the morning and see what it looks like.

I'll fiddle with it and see.  Then maybe put para cord sheath silencers on if needed.

Pat;
The bottom string groove looks off kilter, one side looks higher than the other.  When i draw the bow the string doesn't return to the limb string groove.

Filed the groove a bit, no time to shoot this evening, but will in the morning.  Bow draws well and feels very good in hand.

Yummy, once I found some arrows spined light enough to not shoot sideways the bow settled down.  The bow was very quiet with the woodies, but arrows were all over the place.  Initially, I found a 2117 with aluminum broadhead adapter and 190 grain point that shoot OK at 10 yards.  Noticed the string was returning to the groove.  Then I dug up several 2020 with the same front end set-up and they were burying to the fletch in the block target.  I'll adjust nock point and that will get better.  Speed seemed good, perhaps a little better than the Big River 62" 54# mild D/R longbow with heavy woodies.  These arrows were very stiff for the Paul Bunyan.  The RJ tab worked OK.  The Big Jim might have to have a smidgeon trimmed off.  Happy with performance of this bow.

I don't know about the Paul Bunyan bows, but in the aspect of the advertisements; the packaging and the brand sticker look a bit like the Daisy Red Ryder of bows.
[attachment=1,msg3052502]

I'm having trouble finding articles about the brand. Was it a mass market bow maker, the kind you could find in supermarkets or was it a "real" bowier? The appearance and design make me think of the first solution but maybe I'm wrong... :campfire:

Just weighed the 2020's and averaged 635 grains at 29 1/2" with 160 grain tip.  Spine in low 70#'s probably on upper end of range.  190 grain tip may loosen them up a tad, but they shoot good now.  This bow feels as fast as my heavier recurve.

Put a couple pieces of thicker para cord style rope sheath on at @18% of string length and it made the bow whisper quiet.  You just hear a slight swish from the feathers on release.  2020's 29 1/2" are stiff, but if I cant the bow and flex my knees, they fly real close to where I'm looking.  CE Heritage 250's 29 1/4" arrow fly very good, also with @290 grains up front.

Ran into a couple 2115 shafts and one arrow, in my arrow graveyard.  This should fly.  I'll keep digging for 2018.

I think there were at least a couple Paul Bunyan bows in this pile at the Tennessee Classic during the trading blanket.

Installed the EFA Cherokee 3 arrow on the PB 100 and it looks good.  Feels about as tight as I can get it.  I'll shoot it tomorrow morning early in the cool(er).

After I installed the para cord silencers the string slipped out of the bottom knot and slid up the limb.  The silencers took all the noise out of the bow.  I twisted it all back up and twisted the loop as small as I could and still get it over the nock end.  Brace is right at 7" to pivot point.  I'll try it again tomorrow morning and report back.  Might have to put a tip protector on it to hold the D97 string.

Was ruminating and thought that a bit higher brace would put the string at slightly steeper angle off bow tip.  This may make it less likely to slip down the limb.  Loop is twisted as tight as allowable.  Brace is set at just proud of 7 1/2", so we'll see.  Left it strung and having it settle in now.

I'm a member. It's was my Dad's. I'm 68 and used to shoot it some 30-35 years ago. Not in bad shape actually.
