Please critique my form and see if someone can point out why my shots seem so violent. My bow arm falls away, my shoulders collapse down, and my hand flies away from my face. Been trying for many years to learn proper form and be able to consistently bare shaft arrows for hunting. Any help is much appreciated

Let me know if the links arent working.

It's not as bad as you make it sound.  Keep working on getting your string arm back further around behind the arrow, and the small amount of hand flying away from your face that you have will go away. Keep rotating your shoulders into the bow, which will feel like you're pushing with your bow arm, but isn't, and you will firm up your bow arm. You're doing more things right than most of my students.

Could you unbox the box shoulder thing a little more?

McDave

The idea is to get into better alignment by rotating your shoulders until they are pointed at the target.  When you draw the bow as a RH shooter, your shoulders may initially be lined up pointing to the left of the target.  If you have someone who can help you, have them put an arrow on your shoulder blades while you are at full draw, and see which way the arrow is pointing.  If it is pointing to the left of the target, rotate your shoulders until the anrrow is pointed at the target. We call this "moving into the bow" because after you rotate your shoulders, the left side of your chest will be closer to the bow.  This is why some top archers have to use a chest protector.  After you make this movement, you will find that you are in better control of the bow, and your groups should tighten up.

Of course, if you are near the limit of your strength, you may not be able to make this movement, which indicates that you are overbowed, at least until you build up your strength some more.

Looks great to me, Zack, but the proof is in the pudding.

So you tell us: better?

Unfortunately I have been sucked into the vortex that is bare shaft tuning to tell me how I'm doing. I am hoping with some further blank bale practice with the form depicted in the video my bare shaft issues will be resolved.

Terry Green

The second two videos look much better.  Study the form clock thread, you may pick up a couple of nuggets there....
