Rodd and his bride are at the oncologist as I type and that doc will give his opinion on what the next steps on Leigh's follow up care should be on the cancer they took out of the lump on her chest... :o

I know she and he would both appreciate your prayers as you read this that whatever is to follow is minimal and she has many more years to enjoy her son and daughter and her devoted spouse! :)

Just heard from Rodd they didn't care for the oncologists' unsubstantiated claim to do Chemo, loose hair, get a wig, etc--- guess they'll get a 2nd opinion...

Hopefully he'll be by soon enough to add his $.02

Ok.... here's my $.02 worth....
As David said, the oncologist wants to go full chemo for 16 weeks.... the surgeon said he got all the cancer with some surrounding tissue and went as far as taking out 3 lymph nodes as precaution.  Nodes came back clear so we had to question the full chemo without any other "markers" to substantiate that treatment.  Surgeon said it was stage one, oncologist gave me an unwanted, un-needed lesson on the metric system.  They were ready to draw blood and schedule insertion of a chemo 'port'.  We wanted to "pump the brakes" alittle and process what they had told us.  Before that visit, we were on cloud nine and at worse told radiation therapy.  So this news of chemo was quite a shocker.

We are seeking a second opinion...... I'll keep you all posted!  We appreciate all your thoughts and Prayers!

God bless,
Rodd

Rodd, good move 'pumping the brakes'.  Wife just went thru similar situation, including lymph nodes on both sides; we came up clean; no further discussion about chemo;  If it needs to be then so be it.  Prayers offered for you and your wife.

Well the 2nd pretty much said the same as the first doctor,  but with much more explanation as to why they want to go down the chemo road.  AND his chemo therapy is half of what the first said.  Plus he wants to do scans which the first didn't want.....

Lots of decisions......

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers!

Prayers for you and your wife, and continued recovery with cancer free days ahead.  It is always good to get a second opinion, especially when the doctor wants to go full throttle without justified cause, to you.  It is extremely sad that cancer is a business today, and a big business at that.  In some cases, "treatments" are just money makers for the hospital, and for Big Pharma.  There is a book that was published this past October called "The First Cell: And the Human Cost of Pursuing Cancer to the Last" by Dr. Azra Raza, an oncologist, who watched her oncologist husband Dr. Harvey Preisler succumb himself to cancer.  Her expose about the research that has been ongoing for the last 30 years, with nearly zero positive results, will blow your mind.
