Hey guys,

A while back as I got my form more dialed in I started nicking my nose with the string upon release. I took the red spot and occasional broken skin as a badge of honor given that Rod Jenkins and John Demmer both put tape on their nose to protect against such an issue. But while practicing today I actually gave myself a fat lip. And drew blood! I mean, I'm all for suffering a bit if I can get that arrow where I want it to go, but I need to practice a lot and have a feeling my face won't hold up for the number of arrows I'll need to shoot to get to the level I'd like to get to. HA!

The only minor form tweak I've made recently is I've started aligning the string with the outer edge of the riser in my peripheral vision in an effort to get my eye in a consistent spot over the arrow when I'm at anchor. This really helped a lot with the windage of my shots, and didn't lead to fat lips over the last few weeks, but could this be the reason I'm hitting myself? I'm at a loss.

Have any of you ever experienced this? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

You may be turning your head too far in towards the string.

Yes, often caused by laying your head over too the string rather than bringing the string to your face.  Hold your head still and bring string hand to face.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

Thats probably why I dont anchor close, not even using my finger.  I just come to a certain point on the cheek and memory tells me that with a certain bow and feeling that draw length hits (Anchor Point)

Keep working on your form.  I have gone through times when I hit my face with the string or the nock, and then moved out of it without really knowing why.  I assume it is a difference of millimeters.  You might be rolling the string into your face, similar to a pluck.  All I can tell you is that if you shoot with good form, you won't hit your face.

How about a video of you shooting?

Thanks guys. I will see if the "bring the string to my face" cue helps. As of now, this is a new issue but if the problem persists, I'll definitely post a video and get some feedback.

I can certainly relate to this. A while back I injured my pointer finger on my string hand. Right in the last joint where the string goes. It shut me down until I had it almost well, then I could not stand it anymore and started trying to shoot a bit. After breaking the place open again several times I got some finger savers with an order from 3Rivers and started using those with some difficulty. When I finally got to where I could shoot with the little foam things the first thing that happened was the old nose sting. When this all started I was just developing a nice anchor that was consistent and fairly repeatable. I tried everything to no avail. Then just the other day I started a practice session and as I drew to my face I moved my head a bit trying to not hit that snozzola again since it was getting old. As I tried to get that old anchor back the outside feather touched the end of my nose...... it was like the light bulb moment and everything was right with the world again. I still manage to get it ever once and a while..... now if I can just get this finger healed up proper and do away with the little foam things...
