Dick Langer had a memorable hunt in September for Moose(how's that for an understatement?  :)
I'll let him tell the story, it's a good one.

Congrats!   :notworthy:

Didn't think they grew them that big in Maine.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Whoa!!  Awesome animal.  I didn't think they got that big in Maine either.  The background almost doesn't look like Maine.  Looking forward to hearing the story.  Congrats!

I agree with Sean. Give us a story. Beautiful bull Dick.

Dick Langer

My story started about 33 years ago when Maine opened moose hunting after being closed for about  100 years. That's when I started putting in for the lottery. After 20 years applying  I drew a bull tag in zone 2 in 2001. I was very fortunate to shoot a nice bull one hour and twenty minutes into the season. I was hooked on moose hunting. After a two year mandatory waiting period I started applying again.
Fast forward to June  2014 I get a call from my son inlaw Jon  who proceeds to tell me I drew as an alternate in Maines moose lottery. I wasn't sure what that involved and had to wait the weekend out before I could call the state of Maine to get some answers,I knew I was number 4 on the list.
Monday morning 8 AM I'm on the phone with the state of Maine getting answers. I was told that alternates are called in numerical order to fill moose tags that haven't been filled by their recipients, who wouldn't respond by the dead line, health reasons I guess. I was told they would start calling on August 11, if number 1 didn't answer they would call number 2 etc. They would send me the paper work to fill out with phone numbers etc. For the next two months I was on pins and needles not knowing what I would be offered it would have to be a bull tag or I would decline it.
I've got to finish this later it's been a long day and I plan on getting up early to get on deer stand.
