Well, we had our Cool Springs Fall get together in the Madison, VA mountains.  I saved all my luck up for the last day (Sat. Oct. 23rd).  Saturday morning I had a little doe come in at first light and mess around a fresh scrape in front of me.  I took a 17 yard quartering away shot at her from my tree stand.  She whirrled as I released and I hit her well back angling forward.  I had no blood sign or arrow to judge the hit by.  At 10:30 I met up with Two Hats and Jimmy Meadows and we went to find her.  Knowing she was gut shot and 4 hrs bedded we grid searched.  I bumped her up and could hear the arrow slapping as she ran.  Upon inspection of her escape route she had opened up for a lot of blood loss.  The Snuffer was doing it's work.  We followed the trail until we bumped her again.  At this time the "Deer Whisperer"  Two Hats did his majic.  He ran her to a stop and comanded her to STAY!!!!  while clutching his neck knife.  She bed down and I put a finishing arrow into her.  I've seen a lot of strange happenings in my years, but this beat all....  Here she is:

Well I'm Not done yet:  After getting some lunch and chopping up the deer into a cooler.  I went and got a shower.  I fully intended to relax the rest of the afternoon.  Maybe pack up from a four day camp and enjoy some me time.  Naaaahhh ain't happening.  I put on my leafy suit grabbed Two Hats Double Bull Stool, my trusty old Hummingbird recurve and headed for a ground blind 200 yards from camp.  A nub buck came by and I just watched him feed.  He ditty bopped down a trail after a while.  About ten minutes later at 6:00 here he comes at a trot.  30 yards behind him comes a large doe.  I put my focus on her.  Wouldn't you just know it, she spotted something and locked up at 10 yards behind a tree, spun and I took a running shot at her.  I caught the femoral artery and angled the arrow all the way to the left opposite lung.  She was down in 80 yards.  My second whitetail from the ground in my 25+ years of bowhunting.  Here she is: (Sunday morning picture)

I would rather be lucky than good any day...

Way to lay them down,Jeff. Good thing you had the Whisperer with you.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
