Tradgang has inspired me . I ground and filed a small plane blade 3/4 finished today , over the next few weeks I will tidy the rough edges , polish it and make up brass plate bolsters and fit an antler handle - probably a neck sheath too go with it following that thread . regards Perry

Jager, if you don't mind sharing your secrets, can  you tell me how you get that antler to look like that, with the really dark grooves in it? Is it maybe something besides deer antler and that is just natural for it? I have always wondered how it was done as a lot of production or semi-production knives have antler handles that look just like that. I really like it, but never seen an antler naturally look like that.

By the way, the knife looks really awsome.

Sorry about the pic guys I read that you could only have 600 pixs and under, so that one was like 240 by 360 or something like that. The pic doesnt really do it justice. I taught myself how to do it. Its not that hard, more then anything its patience and taking your time to get the fit perfect. I didnt get the antler perfect around the front bolsters but you have to study it to see it. I also epoxy the handles on and add some grinding dust to the epoxy to try and match what ever Im working with. My wood handle knifes are quite abit tighter to tolerences. Antler is hard to work with I think because you only have one work surface to lay it flat on. This is india stag. Elk scales would have been way cooler but hard to find. I sanded the scales down to were they were almost flush with the finished bolsters I built, that way when you feather it in you dont have to take much material off.
